Mulanje Mountain Biodiversity Conservation Project Mid-Term Review for the Norwegian Governement

The Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust (MMCT) was established around 1994 by individuals who were concerned about the environmental degradation of Mulanje Mountain forest resources and biodiversity. The Mulanje Mountain Biodiversity Conservation Project (MMCBP) was approved in 2000 for Global Environmental Facility (GEF) funding through the World Bank. In August 2007 MMCT applied for support from the Government of Norway. This mid-term review (MTR) of the MMBCP is carried out for the Norwegian Government in order to assess progress towards reaching the objectives of the MMBCP to date, the relevance, effectiveness and sustainability of the project achievements, assessment of any risks and threats, and to suggest corrective measures. During the period reviewed (2008–2010) MMCT has made acceptable progress towards attaining programme objectives, although progress is uneven and the outcomes and impact of some of the interventions are hard to confirm.
